Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) General Secretary Liaquat Baloch has demanded same constitutional right as the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) holds, for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He made this demand while addressing an All Parties Conference (APC) with the theme of “Fake election mandate and the peace of Karachi”, held at Idara-e-Noor Haq here on Tuesday. He further said that the ECP should act as autonomous body dealing its financial and other matters independently.
On the occasion, Baloch urged the Parliament to take appropriate step in this regard and taking measures to strengthen the ECP. During his address, JI General Secretary said that the PML-N in federal and PPP in Sindh province should take serious steps to restore peace in country, particularly in Karachi. “Political parties in the light of its previous experiences should take right decision in the interest of the people of the country”, he added.
Citing the example of an APC held in London, Baloch said that it had decided in the meeting that MQM was not a political party, but a group of terrorists, adding that the establishment uses MQM for creating pressure on the incumbent government.
He further said that the Governor Sindh should resign, as he was responsible for disturbing the peace of the city adding that the conspiracy for spreading lawlessness in the city is being hatched in Governor House. JI General Secretary demanded of the PML-N government to appoint unbiased Governor in Sindh province, who works for the welfare of the people of the province without any discrimination.
JI Naib Ameer Sindh Asadullah Bhutto said that the party leadership will raise its voice at every platform against the unprecedented rigging in polls 2013. On the occasion, Bhutto reiterated his demand to conduct re-poll in Karachi and Hyderabad under army supervision. He further said that the MQM while sitting on opposition benches is preparing itself for exposing crocodile tears. Holding Governor Sindh responsible for lawlessness in Karachi, Baloch demanded his dismissal and appealed the SC to take suo-moto notice in this regard.
PPP leader Taj Haider said that all parties should unite against terrorists and terrorism, adding that PPP wants to strengthen the democracy in the country. Haider said that the ECP has violated the rules and regulations in new delimitation, adding that fake stamp and fake thumb impression being made during general elections. PPP leader demanded of the Election Tribunal to take notice of the rigging in polls 2013.
PTI leader Nadir Akmal Leghari said that the time has come when all parties should unite and play its active role to bring the country out from hot waters. “Those who talking about to break Pakistan are not sincere with the country, adding that the patriotic political and religious parties should come forward and play its due role in order to stop such elements”, he added.
Acting JI Karachi Ameer Barjees Ahmed regretted that the ECP had not played its due role in general elections 2013, and gave free hand to the ‘thapa mafia’ on May 11 to get fake mandate from Karachi and Hyderabad.
