Do you know Jamia Masjid at Banbhore is the oldest mosque in Pakistan which is in ruins because of government failure. This historical mosque which is believed to be from 727 AD is now in ruins.
It is said that it was the first major mosque in the region after Mohammad Bin Qasim conquered Sindh and made it part of Umayyad Caliphate. During this reign many locals accepted Islam and with the help of Sufi & scholars Islam became the largest religion in the region.
The site was submitted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites for consideration by Department of Archaeology & Museums Pakistan.
The ruins of the city can also be seen but despite being a historical city from 1 BC no work were carried out to protect the remains. The city and mosque is located just 65 kilometers from Karachi in the Thatta district.
