Hizb ut Tahreer, a global Islamic political party called people to rally out for Caliphate on 17th April 2011 in major cities of Pakistan. Good numbers of youth attended the call in major cities. However the rallies were sabotaged by administration. In Karachi water canons were also used to disperse the rally at Regal Chowk. Moreover seven people were arrested and beaten for participating in that rally.
However the rally participants were totally nonviolent and peaceful throughout the rally, but the arrested ones are still facing imprisonment to date 8th May 2011. The legal proceedings are in process, the arrested people are young, educated and mostly students from NED University and Karachi University. Some elements in the media and general public are questioning that why are the peaceful students tried in this manner? when terrorists like Raymond Davis and others were released.
A picture below describing the immense use of pressurized water canon to disperse the rally.
The person beaten below in this image is Hizbullah Ansari and he is a student of NED university of engineering and technology.
