Recently Government of Pakistan has imposed additional 5% tax on telecom service and this will tax deduction will start from 1st July. According to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar all mobile phone will now have to pay 15% withholding tax which was 10% previously for many years.
There are two different taxes on cellular service which are With Holding Tax (WHT) and Federal Excise Duty (FED). WHT is 15% whereas FED is 19.5%. This means total taxes are 34.5%. Now whenever mobile user uploads Rs. 100 card he/she will have to pay 42% of his load to Government and mobile company.
After loading the balance of Rs. 100 WHT of 15% is deducted which means Rs. 85 balance will remain than 7% is charged by cellular company i.e. it will bring the balance down to Rs. 78. Now on calls, SMS packages, internet usage 19.5% FED will also be implemented which is a bug burden on mobile subscriber. It is a very unusual situation that rich and poor mobile users both pay same taxes and there is no relief for poor mobile users.
Rs. 100 Easyload/card
Remaining balance after WHT 15% = Rs. 85
Remaining balance after cellular company charges (7%) = Rs. 78
Remaining balance after FED (19.55) = Rs. 58.50
