Coronavirus epidemic has affected almost every country in the world, with restrictions of movements between cities and lockdowns in different countries. Usually people think COVID-19 spreads after interaction with another patient but do you know the virus can also live and stay on different types of surfaces?
Scientists are still studying it to know the duration of its stay on different types of objects during different environment. So far the research indicates that the life period of novel coronavirus on different types of projects is as follows:
- 72 hours on plastic
- 42 hours on metal
- 24 hours on cardboard
- 4 hours on copper
- 3 hours on fabric & porous surfaces
- 3 hours in air
Rumors are also circulating that 5G towers are causing the spread of coronavirus but it was refuted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
How To Clean Surfaces?
When it is clear that coronavirus stays on different types of surfaces then the question arises how can we clean such surfaces to prevent the spread?
Agha Khan University Hospital (AKUH) shared guidelines, advising that surfaces which are regularly touched by people should be cleaned on regular intervals. To clean such object or surface following steps should be followed:
1) Remove dust from the object
2) Use cleaning spray & towel to wipe it
3) Apply disinfectant on the surface
By regularly cleaning such surfaces will reduce the risk of spreading the virus and can be very helpful in containing its spread. Extra precaution should be followed if any person comes in contact with these objects and later shows symptoms of Coronavirus.
