There are 126,000 people suffering from HIV AIDS in Pakistan, this figure only includes reported cases & people who are undergoing treatment there are others who didn’t disclose it because of shame. This was revealed by Sindh Aids Control Programme focal person Sikander Iqbal.
Karachi has the highest number of HIV patients while in terms of Province Punjab tops the list. 14,000 people in Karachi are suffering from AIDS but there are only two treatment centre for such people, one public & one private.
The main reason for the spread of this disease is illegal relationship with prostitutes, Karachi is house to some 27,000 prostitutes who are responsible for spreading the disease.
The disease is also being spread from barber shop and blood transfusions. Around 50% of AIDS patients are from Punjab, in some areas of Punjab around 90% are affected by the disease including parents and children.
