Pakistani Muslim community was attacked by Greek footbal fans during Rabi-ul-Awwal processions celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The incident happened at the capital city of Athens where the peaceful procession was attacked by a local football group fans. It is feared that the attack was racially and religiously motivated reflecting the rise of islamophobia in Greece and Europe.
According to media reports when the scheduled Muslim procession reached Omonia Square it was attacked by the fans of POAK football club who were marching through the square.

The clash resulted in injuring one man seriously who was named Shakeel Ahmed by the Pakistani embassy. Khalid Usman, Pakistani ambassador for Greece said that Shakeel is recovering from the injuries.
No attacker was arrested but riot police used force to protect the Pakistani community. It is not the first time that Pakistani or Muslim community was attacked in Greece.
