
Bus Rapis Transit (BRT) service received the Gold Standard Service award for providing exclusive services in transportation and became the first winner to receive this award in subcontinent.
BRT is facilitating the users by providing them environment friendly service and giving passengers safe and secure mode of transportation.
Recently, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was congratulated by Planning Minister Asad Umar on getting the Golden Standard Service award for BRT service.
Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister of the province planned out the execution of the BRT and it was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2020 which now received the award recently for providing passenger-oriented and environment-friendly facilities at urban level.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) called and greeted ZuPeshawar – the operator of the BRT system – on receiving this international award, addressing and confirming that Peshawar has now become the first city in the subcontinent, third in Asia and 11th globally to receive this.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Kamran Bangash was presented the award by Dr. Walter Hook who is a member of ADB technical committee.
Mr. Hook evaluates the world-class BRTs on the basis of best practices and services internationally ranking K-P BRT first winner of the award in subcontinent.
The Gold Standard was awarded to the city on the basis of maintaining the quality and increasing the chance of promoting sustainable transportation services.
BRT has transformed the cityscape by providing clean technology buses, promoting non-motorized traffic, and transporting 250,000 passengers on daily basis, out of which 20% are women.
This is not the first time for BRT to receive recognition internationally. Previously, it had also received the certificate of International Sustainable Award by the International Transport Organisation. UN Women has also honoured the BRT for providing the best and safe travelling facility to women.
BRT is providing the best possible commuting facilities to its passengers making it a successful project of transportation for the city and boosting maximum users on daily basis with safety and security for the women specifically.
