For centuries it was believed that appendix in our body is a useless part which has no function to perform but new research reveals the truth.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] Researchers from Duke University Medical Centre in North Carolina revealed that appendix is a safe place for good bacteria. After Cholera and dysentery when we lose these good bacteria which are essential for digestion the appendix works as a backup and reserve. [/junkie-alert]
Professor Bill Parker explained that we completed this research to prove that it is not a useless thing without any function, but people should also know that if this becomes inflamed then it should be removed.
Many other animals also have appendix but their function is different, such as Koalas which has the longest appendix. When it was studied it was found that their appendix helps them in absorbing and digesting the eucalyptus leaves.
In past it was believed that appendix once performed some function become useless with evolution now that has been rebuked.
