France has opened world’s first solar panel road in a small village near historical city of Normandy. The panel was laid on about 1 km to generate enough electricity to power the streets of the small village with a small population of 3,400.
The solar panels were laid on 1km route of the village Tourouvre-au-Perche ,covering an area of about 2,800 sq m. The cost of the panels was about £4.2 million or about $5.2 millions. It is expected that it will generate at least 3,000 kWh of energy.
The road will be used by 2,000 vehicles including trucks and other heavy cars, but the solar panels are especially designed for the purpose and are strong enough to bear the weight.
It is another historical moment for the historical city of Normandy which saw many fierce battles between crusaders and Muslims after the city was ruled by Muslims for more than 80 years. Later it where german and French troops fought during the world war.
