Islamabad: Fighter pilot of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and former Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Anwar Shamim passed away on Friday. At the age of 81, he breathed his last fighting a protracted illness. The distinguished fighter leaves behind a widow, two daughters and a son.
He faced cardiac disorder and was under treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalpindi. His funeral would be held today at 2:00 PM at the Air Force Complex in E-9. He would be buried in H-11 graveyard with full military honors. The capable pilot was born in Haripur district on 1 of October 1931. He was brought up in an educated family. He pursued his dream by becoming member of University Air Squadron. He then joined RPAF in 1950. He was granted commission in March 1954 on completion of his training at Royal Australian Air Force. He actively participated in the 1965 and 1971 wars. His leadership during war missions was aggressive and served as an excellent example for his juniors.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt have expressed grief over the death of the former PAF chief.
