Finally after years of rumours the construction of a new flyover and underpass has begun at Shahrah-e-Faisal, opposite to the Drigh Road Station. The traffic has been diverted through an alternate road and the digging has been started. The cost for the construction of the flyover is estimated to be Rs. 50.5 crore.
During Office hours passing Drigh Road station was not an easy job, the signal to divert the traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Gulshan-e-Iqbal worsened the situation.
During VIP movement or rain in monsoon season the traffic would be stuck for hours. But it is hoped that after the completion of the current project the traffic situation will become better.
Another reason for the traffic jam was the flyover which was wrongly constructed on the right-most lane, the traffic load was not correctly calculated because of which holes regularly emerged. It is believed that in the past 20 years the flyover has gone through 30 repairs.
The construction of flyover & underpass is part of a development project for Karachi for which Rs. 10 Billion development funds were released by Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah few months ago.
