Islamabad: The High Commissioner of Canada Ross Hynes here Thursday presented Canadian Award 2011 for reporting in the General Interest to as many as five journalists of Pakistan in an event held at the National Press Club.
Mubarak Zeb Khan of Dawn was presented the best reporter award for her investigative report on the extent of tax fraud and corruption while Zahid Gishkori of The Express Tribune, Masood Raza and Uneeba Waqar of Geo News, Zakia Manzoor of Samaa TV also received awards on their investigative and research work.
The High Commissioner while speaking at the ‘Canadian High Commissioner’s Awards for Pakistani Journalism in the Public Interest said Pakistani journalists were serving their country on the fronts and lighting up the dark places in spite of fear and threats.
“Today, we want to express our support for the Pakistani Journalism community by celebrating journalism that focuses attention on the public interest – the issues that matter to Pakistanis”, she added.
She also announced that awards for Pakistani Journalism in the Public Interest would be given away on an annual basis.
