Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has arrested a leading social media activist from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), it is being said that he was leading the social media team which was involved in maligning judiciary & army.
Anwar Adil Tanoli was arrested from the capital city and officials revealed that ‘FIR has been booked against him with section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016 (PECA) and the sections 500, 501, 505, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).’
Pakistan is criticized by international human rights and press freedom organizations because of the arrest and prosecution for speaking against institutions and authorities. Just few months ago a member of PTI social media team ‘Salar Kakar’ was arrested on which PTI protested calling that cyber-crime is being used to victimize social media activists.
In 2016 Pakistan was declared the fourth deadliest country for journalists because 115 people were killed.
