London: Fatima Bhutto, the niece of the assassinated former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, has been nominated for the Orange prize. The Orange prize, that is the Women’s Prize for Fiction, includes all English language related novel from around the world. Fatima has penned down several fact based books, but this novel is her first ever attempt of fiction based novels.
The novel, “The Shadow of the Crescent Moon”, has the honour of being chosen from other worthy literary works from around the world. The winner of the prize will be announced at the Royal Festival Hall in central London on 4th June. The winner will be entitled to 50,000 dollars prize and a bronze known as a “Bessie”.
Other nominations of the 19th annual award include, “The Luminaries” by the New Zealand author Eleanor Catton, which has already won the 2013 Booker Prize. “Burial Rites” of Hannah Kent and “The Lowland” of Jhumpa Lahiri are among the nominations.
The judging panel consists of five judges with the managing director of Penguin Books among them. According to Helen, the nominations consist of a fantastic selection of books of the highest quality, intense and intelligent writing that readers would certainly enjoy.
Last year’s winners included many debut novels as well, which means that Fatima has a good chance of winning the award.
