Hyderabad: A famous Pan shop is located here in Hirabad area which is named as ‘Gulab Pan House’. The spot is popular because of its delicious and juicy Paans whose price ranges from 10-12 rupees for a normal pan and 15-20 rupees for a special Meva added paan.
Paan is a tasty, psychoactive preparation of betel leaf combined with areca nut or cured tobacco. It is chewed before spitting or swallowing. Slaked lime paste is commonly added to bind the leaves.
In Pakistan, the culture of chewing Paan is widespread and it is a traditional chewing product especially in Memon and Muhajir households, where numerous paans were consumed throughout the day. It has also spread in Punjab where a paan shop can be found in almost every street and market.
Paan is mostly consumed in Asia as the people here are addicted to it while some eat it just to freshen the breath.
Paan has numerous variations, some examples are:
Tambaku paan
Paan supari / paan masala / sada paan
Meetha paan / sweet paan
Trento / olarno paan
Maghai paan
Jagannath paan
But eating a lot of pan could cause tongue cancer as it has Chuna, Katha, Chalia, Tobacco and other dangerous stuff. Chuna is possibly the major cause of cancer.
