Over the past 20 years Mobile Phones and Internet technology have spread to an unprecedented speed but still 4 billion people around the globe are not connected to the internet. But now Facebook is aiming to make it possible for everyone to connect with internet.
Facebook is working on an Open Cellular Network through which people living in remote areas with no access to internet will be able to connect the world online.
Facebook not only designed but also tested the cost-effective wireless access platform in their headquarters and aims to make the design of the hardware open source so that anyone from anywhere may locally build and implement it.
The small box can work as a cellular access point or network-in-box, from 2G and LTE to Wi-Fi all in one box.
They have designed the software in a unique way because this device will be installed in remote areas with problems in availability of access and repair.
The software can be operated from anywhere. It will automatically issues warnings when there is a problem so that the problem can be resolved without visiting the area.
