KARACHI: The Acting Inspector General of Police, Sindh Mr Ghulam Haider Jamali has said that extortion incidents have decreased in Karachi in the holy month of Ramazan. While talking to media persons, he said that the police made achievements in Lyari operation; many terrorists were killed in encounters.
Ghulam Haider Jamali said that there was a tip-off that Baba Ladla of the Lyari gangster fled away but he would surely be arrested. The acting IG Sindh further said that advantages from Karachi operation were being speedily got. ‘’No police officer from Sindh police including me has any political pressure’’, added he, saying that the police foiled possible terror activity on the observance of Yaum-e-Ali (RA).
Ghulam Haider Jamali vowed that stern action would be taken in order to remove crimes from Karachi, adding that targeted actions were being taken in the city for a while.
On the other hand, 700 retired soldiers have been deployed in the sensitive areas of Karachi as police constables in order to better law and order situation in Karachi. It is pertinent to mention here that the government of Sindh had announced to deploy 1000 former soldiers in Karachi in order to pacify Karachi.
According to details, 700 ex-army soldiers have been recruited as police constables in Police Department. Police officials said that the purpose of deploying the former army soldiers in Karachi was to further strengthen targeted operation in the city.
The Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo has said that the former army soldiers have been deployed in Orangi Town, Manghopir and adjacent areas.
