Lahore: The Environment Protection Department (EPD) secretary, Saeed Iqbal Wahla passes away here at the age of 53 as he suffered a fatal heart attack on Thursday. The funeral prayer of the deceased will be offered today after Jummah prayers at Masjif Chowk Defence.
According to his colleague Naseemur Rahman Shah, he received a call 15 minutes after Wahla had left the office at around 5pm informing him that Wahla had suffered a heart attack.
He was taken to the United Christian Hospital where doctors tried to breathe new life into him but he succumbed to the attack. He was declared dead at 6pm.
The deceased was posted as the EPD secretary in April 2012 and had earlier served as the Faisalabad and Gujranwala commissioner.
In order to make Environment Protection Act 2012 more effective law, Wahla had led efforts to amend in the law. He also played a pivotal role in eradicating Dengue from. He has also been credited for his active role in the River Ravi Commission set up to restore the ecological balance and the river of pollutants.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has condoled the sudden death of EPD Secretary and said that he was a competent and dutiful officer. His services will not be forgotten for a long time.
