A massive earthquake hit the province of Aceh in Indonesia killing at least 26 people early at the morning. According to US Geological Survey the earthquake of 6.4 magnitude which struck the city of Sigli was at a depth of 17.2 km and struck at 5:03 am.

Earthquake destroyed many homes, buildings and other structures in the districts of Pidie Jaya, revealed Red Cross official from Indonesia. The local authorities are using heaving machinery to save the lives of people who are trapped under rubble and destroyed building structures.

Earthquakes and tremors are very common in Indonesia because it lies on the meeting place of several tectonic plates commonly known as ‘Ring of Fire’.
