Karachi: The coalition government led by PPP on Monday passed Contempt of Court Bill 2012 in order to amend the contempt of court laws, in spite of the severe resistance by major opposition parties in the National Assembly.
The bill was moved by Law Minister Farooq H Naek which aroused anger and serious confrontation by PML-N who protested and walked out from the session.
The bill is indeed the true face of Democracy, the political parties and champions of Democracy who are against this bill must stop the drama as it is completely a Democratic step.
Nothing is un-democratic in the bill as parliaments have an absolute right and complete authority to convert black into white, good to bad and Halal to Haram in this man made system.
Pakistan has faced harsh consequences over the past many years because of democracy either led by a single dictator or a company of 354.
So far, this system provided unconditional immunity to the President only but now if this bill got passed, it will provide a shelter also to top government officials against contempt of court proceedings.
We have to make it clear in our mind that the problem does not lie with the people or politicians, it lies with the system which grants haven to the ruling elite. The system must be uprooted and replaced by the other. Radical change is necessary not the change of faces. We need to study the Arab spring, get back to the basics and struggle to create uprising here in Pakistan for a real better change.
