Jamaat-e Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Muhammad Mahenti has vehemently condemned Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on its steps against the residents of the city and employees of the utility. He had also criticized the authorities concerned over their partisan role and neglecting KESC’s anti-human maneuvours. In this regard, Mahenti has demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take Suo Moto notice so that the people of the city and KESC’s employees should bet rid of their problems that the KESC has inflicted on them.
While condemning the KESC for shedding load in winter and forced retrenchment of employees, he said that the management of the KESC has always looted the people of the city and its tyrant attitude had ruined the lives of the employees.
He said that frequent rise in electricity tariff; prolonged load shedding, extra billing and retrenchments of employees had exposed plunder and loot by the KESC. It is the KESC due to which industrial units have ruined and shut and the city of lights has been converted into a dark alley. The retrenchment policy of the KESC had caused families of hundreds of workers to starve and die of hunger.
Mahenti said that JI had fully supported the KESC’s workers protest at the Supreme Court of Pakistan because JI had since day one been standing beside the poor workers. The KESC’s management has to change its attitude toward workers and respect rights of workers, he warned.
He demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan that he should take Suo Moto notice on KESC’s anti-social and anti-state steps and should pass an order to the government for taking the KESC back in custody of the state.
