Chinese government has passed new legislation which will ban Uyghur Muslims from having long beards, Muslim women from covering their face& body through niqab and banning them from having religious names.
China believes that such acts will stop extremism from the troublesome autonomous region of Xinjiang which has a Uyghur Muslim majority. The new laws will have a tremendous affect on daily lives of locals as it also puts restrictions and bans having marriages in traditional Islamic way or emphasizing on Hall foods.
Uyghur’s had an independent country “East Turkestan’ in the Xinjiang area for few years before the communist revolution of China which captured the area. From then till now Chinese government is involved in prosecuting and crushing the identity of the Uyghur’s through tough sanctions and legislation.
Mosques have been demolished, Quranic learning has become a crime, and even writing their language in the traditional way is considered war against the state.
