Karachi: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 Champions ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’ have been eliminated from the Champions League Twenty20 2012 being played in South Africa, as their match against Perth Scorchers on Wednesday washed out due to rain, resulting in the elimination of KKR because of a tie.
After suffering defeats in their first two outings against Delhi Daredevils and Auckland Aces, this match against Scorchers was their must-win match that was called off due to incessant rain in Durban.
In the process, they became the first team to be eliminated from the mega tournament. The match ended 14 overs into the Scorchers innings when they were 91 for two at that stage.
After the early blow of Herschelle Gibbs at the hands of Brett Lee, Simon Katich and Shaun Marsh added 70 runs for the second wicket to put Scorchers in a much better position.
