Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif made the shocking assertion that a Pakistani bureaucrat’s daughter received Rs72 crore ($2.8 million) at her wedding in salaami; the custom of giving money as a gift to the bride and groom from parents, family, and guests.
In addition, the minister asserted that a staggering Rs 1.2 billion (US $4.6 million) in salaami was collected at the wedding of the first daughter of the same bureaucrat, who he claimed is a grade 21 public employee but didn’t tell the name.
“I was directly informed by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi who attended the wedding of a bureaucrat’s daughter. Someone from his constituency was gathering salaami, “Asif remarked on Friday during a meeting of the National Assembly.
“When Elahi asked him how much money he had so far collected, he said, “Rs720 million and counting.” He was placing the cash in a bag” Asif informed the Parliament.
