If you are in the midst of building a house or thinking about making renovations, remember that if you use high-quality fittings and materials, the value of your home can increase by 10 to 12%.
This is especially important if you want to sell the house at a later stage. Here are a few ways to boost your property’s value.
High quality tiles, such as those made using porcelain or wood in your living room or bedrooms are a sure way to boost your home’s value.
If you opt to do so, use metal such as copper for the skirting to give it a contemporary feel. Copper is considered to be extremely trendy these days, and an increasing number of interior designers are recommending copper tiles for the walls.
Although regular paint remains the most popular option for most people, you should use textured paint for your walls and/or ceilings.
Not only will this lend a more aesthetically pleasing look, textured paint is more durable than regular paint. Furthermore, it can cover imperfections (such as cracks) effectively.
The most commonly used options are those made with plastic as they are economical. However, metallic sockets are a better bet; they are more durable and are available in many variations and colour schemes.
Brass and stainless steel are trending currently; another option are grey switches surrounded by polished chrome plates.
Chrome is an extremely popular option for basins and bath taps, although those made with bronze or nickel are also worth considering as they strike a warmer note than silver-toned metals.
Other colour variations worth considering are rose-gold or ‘antique-style’ gold for added bling. And while on the subject of powder rooms and bathrooms, high-end tubs, mirrors, lighting fixtures and wallpaper are all well worth considering.
