Malala Yousafzai has condemned the actions of the Nigerian militants Boko Haram and called on to lay down their weapons and stop misusing the name of Islam to justify the abductions of 276 Nigerian girls from their school earlier in April 2014. She made these comments while visiting Nigeria as a special envoy of UN on the event of celebration of her 17th birthday.
She also compared the Taliban with Boko Haram and said that they share same hatred towards women education. She met with several girls who somehow managed to escape from the abductions while 200 girls are still missing.
Malala Yousafzai also met with the Nigerian President Mr. Goodluck Jonathan in capital Abuja and conveyed her sympathy over the missing girls. While answering to a question in the regard to the meeting she said “As you all know, in politics nothing is clear. In the circumstances nothing is clear really, but the President did make promises, and the President said that he feels that these girls are his daughters,” Malala said. She further stated that the President has ensured that he will do everything possible for bringing the girls back home.
