Pakistani Government has decided to completely ban the production, sale and purchase of Banaspati Ghee by 2020.
Previously Punjab Food Authority (PFA) recommended a ban on factories which produce Banaspati Ghee due to the health issues which arise after consumption of artificial Ghee.
Banaspati Ghee contains Sulfur, trans-fatty acid and Palmitic acid which can cause obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and cancer. Due to these health issues it will be complete banned and factories will be sealed by July 2020.
Currently there are 97 Banaspati Ghee companies in Pakistan with which 100,000 people are associated. Close of these 97 companies will result in unemployment of these 100,000 people.
It is believed that these manufacturing units were established with 25 billion rupees. How will this loss and unemployment will be adjusted is a question which needs government attention.
Pakistan is not the first country to ban artificial ghee, many developed countries have already banned this unhealthy product.
