Zac Mitchell lost his thumb after a bull destroyed his thumb with an attack in an Australian dairy farm, he was rushed to a hospital but after dual operation the doctor failed to reattach the thumb.
As a suggestion doctor told him that why not remove your toe and attach it as a thumb but Zac was very cautious about removing his toe. Lead surgeon Sean Nicklin said that “It is a bit of a crazy idea – they [patients] do not want to be injured in another part of their body”
The rare operation was carried out in The Sydney Eye Hospital and the patient was discharged after few days but he will have to go through 12 months of long rehabilitation process before he can use his toe as thumb.
Though he will never be like before but doctors believe that having a thumb is more important than toe because without thumb we lose many functions of our hand.
