Aurangzeb is usually portrayed as a brutal ruler who dethroned his father, killed his opponents and destroyed Hindu temples but are these facts or blatant lies against a great Mughal Ruler?
According to Audrey Truschke who is an assistant professor at Rutgers University these allegations are based on British propaganda which showed Aurangzeb as a barbaric & brutal ruler to justify British rule as a civilized government.
In 1659 when some riots broke out against hindus he wrote to his official ‘“You must see that nobody unlawfully disturbs the Brahmins or other Hindus of that region, so that they might remain in their traditional place and pray for the continuance of the Empire.”
On many occasions he gave free lands to Hindu religious leaders for making temples such as eight villages and tax free land given for Balaji Temple in 1691 & Rent free land gifted to a Brahaman in 1698. Many temples in Allahabad, Bihar, Vrindavan are built on land given by the Mughal Ruler.
