In order to avoid going to Pakistan for the future 2023 Asia Cup, India put up the proposal to shift all Asia Cup to UAE or Qatar.
According to a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pakistan’s 2023 World Cup matches may not take place in Pakistan and can be taken place in Bangladesh, as reported in the media.
India has declined to visit Pakistan for the future 2023 Asia Cup. Pakistan was threatening to boycott the Asia Cup, which has led India to think about using a “hybrid model” for the competition.
The suggested plan would have the Indian team playing its Asia Cup games abroad while the other teams would play their games in Pakistan. Currently, Pakistan is reportedly taking into consideration.
Currently, Pakistan is reportedly investigating the option of holding their World Cup games in a neutral venue.
However, the BCCI insider went on to tell the Press Trust of India (PTI) that these are only “pressure tactics” from the PCB and there is a chance that the entire Asia Cup might be moved from Pakistan to either the UAE or Qatar.
“We recognise that PCB is using this as a form of pressure due to the Asia Cup controversy. But let me assure you that ultimately the Asia Cup will also be held in the United Arab Emirates or Qatar, and Pakistan would likely be required to play its matches in one of these countries,” according to a BCCI source.
“As far as Pakistan hosting its Asia Cup games in Pakistan, is concerned, the Asian Cricket Council approves the tournament’s budget. How can Pakistan play its games at home if the ACC claims that holding the Asia Cup in two countries is not a commercially viable concept. For all you know, the ACC may not approve the budget,” the BCCI source continued.
