Aryana and Amrina are two young girls and folk singers from Kalash, who became famous through Coke Studio season 11. Kalash is a small community in Hindukush mountains with a distinct culture and religion from most of Pakistan.
Aryana and Amrina usually sang songs in family and tribal events including their religious festival of Josh which is celebrated in May as the start of summer. But it was Coke Studio which introduced them to the world.
Aryana Azam was born as ‘Farsi Gul’ but after growing up she decided to change her name and now prefers to call herself Arayana.
‘Pareek’ is a traditional song which is rich in chants, and claps. The beauty of the folk song is increased when whole group of Kalash women sing it together. This was the song which introduced Aryana, Amrina & the Kalash song to the world.
Kalasha are a small unique community of 4,100 people living in the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is usually disconnected with the outside world. The Kalasha people live in the three valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur & Birir. Aryana & Amrina are from the beautiful Bumburet valley.
