Donald Trump won the election and become the 45th President of United States which shocked the whole world as people were expecting that Hillary Clinton will win the elections with a majority. As soon the results become clear Trump opponents, mainly College and University students, came out in streets to protest.
The protests were held in major American cities including New York, California, Miami, San Francisco and Portland. Protestors blocked roads, smashed shop windows and threw objects at Police. Police arrested hundreds of protestors but the protests are still being held on the third day after elections.
In California which is the 6th largest economy of the world Donald Trump’s election made the ground better for Calexit supporters. They are campaigning for an independent California because they think the rest of USA is a burden on them.
They also held their protest in front of California Capitol Hill and raised slogans for an independent country. They said we can be far better if we leave USA like Britain left the European Union. They are demanding for a referendum in 2019.
Similar referendum was also held in Scotland when they campaigned for a separate state but failed to receive the majority. 44.7% supported the call for independence while 55% supported to stay with UK.
In California a clear majority is in support of the federal system and ‘California Yes’ campaigners who are asking for independence have failed to gain ground support.
