What should you do if food is in your mouth and the dawn breaks and Muezzin calls for prayer during sehri? Or is it allowed to eat food during azaan?
Many people think we should swallow that food but Imam Al-Nawawi in his book al-Majmoo’ said that food should be spitted and not eaten. If you swallow that food then your fast is invalidated because you intentionally ate that food after dawn break.
Shaikh Muhammad Saalih also said the same but added that today Muezzin gives the Azaan as per clock and not by actual observing & sighting the dawn. So if today someone eats the food which was in his mouth at the time of Azan then he should still continue the fast.
But it is better to stop eating before the call of the muezzin as today we have clocks through which we can know the exact timing of the dawn while previously people had to make Suhoor on assumptions.
