Aga Khan Emergency is a gateway towards your death. Yesterday had terrible experience. We have been going to Aga khan for our medical treatments since its establishment but yesterday it was first time we had worst experience.
My sister is suffering from chikungunya. She is under treatment in a very experienced doctor of Aga Khan CHC. Yesterday she got reaction of a medicine which she was prescribed by the doctor and we took her early morning back to Aga Khan Community Health Centre (CHC), her body was badly swelled and rash, the CHC doctor provided her the medicine and suggested us that if she didn’t get better we must rush to Aga Khan so called ER.
We reached to Aga Khan ER around 6 pm where she got the registration and medical assessment by the nurses was done ( remember it includes only your blood pressure check up and temperature, that’s it) later they asked us to move to waiting area, there we came to know that the patients who arrived around 3pm were even not treated. We took her to CHC, and we thought she might receive the initial first aid, the CHC doctor suggested us to take her back to ER.
There we started requesting to the doctors and all available staff to provide bed and at least ask any doctor to assess her. She was suffering from 39.2 fever means 103. I went to the counter there they called Aga Khan ER service officer, who was not guidance but in fact he was insulting the attendant politely. When I asked him that he wanted us to stay calm but what if he or any of his family member would be in place of my sister, he said he would have taken to any other hospital like Liaquat National as everybody is trying to reach Aga khan emergency. In fact politely he asked us to go to any other hospital but don’t rely on Aga Khan where my sister whole medical record is.
We requested him to please ask any doctor to come and at least provide her first aid and he politely but in a satirical gesture he made fun of my ill sister. She had medicine reaction which was growing worst and that reaction could have blocked her throat too. But that brutal man misbehaved with my crying sister. Although she is a heart and kidney patient and under treatment of Aga khan hospital doctors, we informed about her history too.
That attitude of so called Service officer was too non professional. They didn’t treat my sister as a serious patient because ( for them ) she was conscious, was sitting on a wheelchair and had only 103 fever and server aching and rashes on the whole body which was not an acute condition for them. My sister was crying and asking them to get her relieved but as she was not brought in an ambulance and she was not unconscious so was not a critical patient for them. My point is what is an emergency for them, and once you are claiming that everybody is rushing to Aga Khan for the treatment what they could do if no bed is available, bed was not my sister requirement, in fact proper and immediate injections and medicine was needed.
They have started treating in emergency on first come first serve bases instead of finding how critical the patient is. Yesterday I have found Aga khan hospital emergency more like any government hospital emergency.
We took her to Dow medical hospital where she got immediate first aid and all her IV treatments started. She is better Alhumdulilah but Aga Khan Emergency had left no chance to kill her yesterday.
