Many people think that after engagement they can talk and meet with their fiancée as they both have agreed to get married soon. This question was raised at the Darul Iftah of Jamia Binoria by a person who asked that whether it was allowed for him to meet his fiancé or not.
Mufti replied that engagement is a promise for marriage and has no impact on the relationship between two individuals. The mufti said that no divorce is required to break the engagement which shows that it has no value in terms of shariah.
So even if someone is engaged he cannot meet, talk with his fiancée. The only thing which will make it allowable is the Nikah after which they become husband and wife, he further explained.
It should be noted that wedding ceremony is not necessary rather Nikah is the act which changes the reality of the couple.
