ISLAMABAD: The candidate of Muslim League Nawaz, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been re-elected as Speaker National Assembly. Ayaz Sadiq defeated the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shafqat Mehmood.
Deputy Speaker of National Assembly, Murtaza Javed Abbasi told while announcing results of the election that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has got 268 of 300 votes in the election of Speaker whereas Shafqat Mehmood got only 31 votes and vote of him was rejected as well.
Thus, Ayaz Sadiq was honored to become the Speaker of the same assembly twice. After being elected as the 20th speaker of National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq took the oath of his office whereas deputy speaker was sworn to him.
Ghazi Gulab Jamal from FATA members also submitted his nomination papers for the seat of Speaker however, he later withdrew in favor of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and the chief of Jamiat ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman also cast their votes.
