Karachi: Karachi driving licence campaign is postponed till February 2016. According to details, the citizens of Karachi are bound to get their licenses within three months whereas commercial and heavy vehicles are bound to get their licenses within one month. It is strange that those who have no licenses would be fined challans but the traffic police constables have stopped checking licenses of commercial and heavy vehicles.
According to officials, the traffic police had announced to arrest the citizens having no licenses however, due to the rush of public at driving license branches, the campaign was extended for one month that later in a high level meeting was further extended to three months.
On the request of transporters, the drivers of commercial and heavy vehicles were also given respite and afterwards, the campaign to check driving license against commercial and heavy vehicles was stopped by police.
The officials suggest that the citizens should immediately get their driving licenses because not only their challans would be made in case they had no licenses but also they can be arrested after the respite ends.
On the other hand, ministry of interior, Sindh has expressed outrage over the recent campaign carried out by traffic police concerning driving licenses. In a letter to IG Sindh, it is written that the campaign caused public panic instead of implementation on law. It suggested that no such campaign should be started without any planning.
