Washington: Study by The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists unfolds the stats of Pak Indo Nuclear weapons. The graph is evident that Pakistan is leading with 120 atomic weapons India Lagging behind at 110. Pakistan and India when first tested their Nuclear weapons in 1998, the state of affairs internationally also depicted failure in terms of Regulation and control of Atomic Weapons. United States had 10,732 weapons and Soviet Union possessed 14,368 Atomic weapons.
United Nations Office for disarmament Affairs (UNODA) although in place along with Non-proliferation treaties but adherence to the regulations and treaties is evident. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) came into being in 1957 with the intention to “ensure safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology”. Partial Test Ban treaty entered into force in 1963 followed by the joint treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear weapons which came into force in 1970. Although not yet completely implemented but we do have The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty which declares that states agree to ban all nuclear explosions in all environments, for military or civilian purposes. The reason it is not implemented is due to the non-ratification of eight specific states.
The Global proliferation on the other hand of warhead stockpiles points towards the on ground reality in 1986 alone the atomic weapons stockpiled to 64,099. Pakistan since 2002 remained ahead of India at least with margin of 10 weapons. The only time when Pakistan rivaled was back in 1999 when both the countries only had 8 Nuclear weapons each.

After 11 September 2001 when a new chapter began in the history, US withdrew from anti-ballistic missile treaty as they decided to fight The ‘War on Terror’. However Atomic Weapons of US dropped sharply 2004 through 2007. US and Russia in 2010 signed a New Strategic Treaty which later on came in force in 2011after ratification. Both the States commit cut down the strategic nuclear warheads by one-third and 50% plus the missiles, submarines and bombers. At that time Hillary Clinton in capacity of Secretary of State said this pact will enhance international stability.

Pakistan and India however haven’t showed any interest in slowing down the acquisition of atomic weapons despite International insistence. US experts recently pointed that a terror attack in India may lead to a full-blown nuclear war between two states. Nuclear deal signed between US and India in 2008 was put into effect earlier this year when president Obama visited India. Despite the fact that this deal will have negative impact on south Asian region.
