LAHORE: It rained cats and dogs in Punjab that claimed 15 lives, injuring various others. According to sources, the heavy rain in Punjab caused to collapse the roof of the houses down whereas incidents of electric shocks killed 15 people and injured more than 23.
Roof of a house collapsed down in Chah Miran, Lahore in which 6 people were killed including a 2-year-old girl. According to rescue sources, all the dead men belonged to the same family. Other incidents of roof collapsing happened in Mazang, LDA Plaza and Shadiwal. 4 people in Mazang, 4 in LDA Plaza and 1 person in Shadiwal were injured respectively. Rescue 1122 shifted the wounded persons to a local hospital.
According to 1122 rescue sources, 3 persons including a 22-years old girl were died of electricity shock in Daroghawala area whereas 19 people were killed in Daska, Gujranwala and Muzaffargarh. A man drowned in a Nullah in Muzaffargarh whose dead body was taken out. It is pertinent to mention here that heavy rain in Lahore city and its surrounding areas has been continued for several hours. Roads and streets became streams and Nullahs.
On the other hand, the sanitation work of Nullahs was not performed by the provincial government due to which the rain water in various areas entered in the houses that had paralyzed the living system.
It is pertinent to mention here that the heavy rain has disordered the communication system whereas the electricity supply is suspended in various areas. The chief minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has grieved over the deaths of the citizens. According to sources, the government of Punjab has announced financial aid for the bereaved families. The family of the deceased will receive 5 lakhs whereas the families of the injured will receive one lakh rupee.
