Fortaleza: Costa Rica’s two goals in three minutes changed the game in their favour and beat Uruguay in group D’s opining match. This group is considered as death-group of the prestigious tournament with three former world champions. After the opining whistle by referee, Uruguay set themselves in attacking position and get their first success in 24th minute when penalty conceded by Diaz (Costa Rica). Edison Cavani (Uruguay) earned this penalty stroke and scored their only goal. At the end of first half, Uruguay came back in the dugout on the top with 1-0 lead.
In the beginning of second half, Costa Rica seemed much better team in the ground. Left footed shot from Joel Campbell levelled match’s score by 1-1. Within three minutes of their first goal, Oscar Duarte’s cross header from left side of the box to right corner took lead by 2-1 for Costa Rica.
Marcos’s soft touch from the right of the box was third for Costa Rica. This is the first ever victory for Costa Rica in football against two-time world champion Uruguay.
Next meetings: Costa Rica will face Italy on 20 June, 2014 and Uruguay will fight against England on 19 June.
