Tennis is not a game where Pakistan boasts a significant presence but that trend is changing with the emergence of young talented Tennis players and the growing interest in the sport among Pakistani youth. Ushna Suhail is a rising star of Pakistan Tennis and is the top ranked Pakistani female Tennis player.
Ushna comes from a sporting family with her grandfather being the legendary Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmed who was a Tennis player in the 1940s. She is also the cousin of Pakistan Tennis star Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi who has represented Pakistan at the top level in tennis grand slams like Wimbledon etc. Ushna started playing at the age of 11 years at the Lahore Gymkhana where her father used to play.
She is the four times finalist of the International Tennis Federation Junior championship and has a ranking of 337 on the ITF junior circuit. She has also won the Monty Tour Open in Spain and has been the national women’s champion 7 times. She is the first woman to have been selected sports brand ambassador by Fauji Fertilizer Company.
Ushna has risen to this level through hard work and determination despite there being little support for tennis from the government of Pakistan, tennis being an expensive sport. She is committed towards proving herself at the international level and promoting a positive image of Pakistan in front of other nations.
