Lahore: Pakistani women are working hard to prove that they can be considered as equal to men in the society and in every field. Another example of this is the newly reinstated batch of seven female traffic wardens in Lahore. The lady wardens were handed their duties in a special ceremony led by Chief Traffic Officer Sohail Chaudary.
The lady traffic wardens had been deployed previously but were removed from the roads and posted to office jobs due to the harassment and social pressure they faced on the roads. Several arrests were also made in this regard but the problem continued and the idea of female traffic wardens was abandoned.
Now the lady wardens have returned with much better training on how to deal with slippery personalities on the road. They have also received expert technical training by Atlas Honda to ensure they can handle their vehicles properly.
The batch consists of seven female wardens named Saba Noor, Aroosa, Anna Aziz, Sidra Saleem, Sidra Riaz, Sadia and Farzana. They have been assigned patrolling and monitoring duties from Liberty Market to Fawara Chowk. Another batch of 9 female wardens is undergoing training and is expected to start duty in a couple of months. This step was appreciated by all women and senior traffic officers and is a good step towards empowering women in Pakistan.
