Manila: The biggest Muslim rebel group in Philippine ‘Moro Islamic Liberation Front’ managed to get their demand fulfilled of creating an Islamic State in the Southern Philippine region inhabited by Muslim majority as they agreed a peace deal with the Philippine government giving them the independent Muslim majority State.
The MILF, rebel group, announced on Sunday they had agreed a deal to end decades-long separatist insurgency, also announcing the creation of a new semi-autonomous Muslim area “Bangsamoro” in the resource-rich southern Philippine region of Mindanao.
The insurgency has killed more than 150,000 people and finally the decades-long conflict reaches its conclusion with the formation of Bangsamoro which emerged as the 59th Muslim State on the World map. 12,000-strong Moro Islamic Liberation Front regards Bangsamoro as their ‘ancestral homeland‘.
According to the media reports, the signing of the 13-page Framework Agreement is scheduled on Oct. 15 between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front that will set in motion the creation of an enlarged autonomous “Bangsamoro” in Mindanao.
