Islamabad: Dual citizen could neither sit in assemblies nor they can take part in the upcoming general elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) made it clear on Thursday, local news channel reported.
The decision was taken during the counseling meeting of political parties in Election Commission, ECP’s Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that we need the support of political parties in order to carry out transparent ballot process. “Transparent elections are not possible without the support of political parties and that error-free voter lists are necessary for the elections,” he added.
The Secretary of ECP further said that austere measures would be taken against bogus voting and until the election schedule is announced, the procedure of maintenance and registration of new voters will continue.
Earlier, while addressing the session, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said that they cannot afford rigged elections. Those who have dual nationalities could vote in the upcoming elections.
It is to mention here that overseas Pakistanis could not vote for their candidates in the coming general elections.
