Karachi. Jamaat-e Islami (JI) would stage a sit-in protest at the Police head office against atrocities by intelligence agencies inflicted on JI workers in form of unlawful and unconstitutional kidnapping and detention. JI Karachi chapter Chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti announced this during a press conference held at the Idara-e Noor-e Haq Thursday. JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui and Deputy Chief Nasrullah Shaji were also present. Despite continued protest, none of the kidnapped JI workers were produced in any court of law, which was an absolute denial of the constitution of the country, act of severe violation to basic human rights and above all it has inflicted the parents and relatives of the kidnapped workers with extreme mental torture, he said.
He informed that JI would stage a sit-in protest at the Police Head Office located on M A Jinnah Road on Friday, January 13, 2011. It has been more than 6 months when agencies had kidnapped 2 JI workers, Osama Waheed and Ajmal Waheed from Karachi airport but despite all efforts, appeals and protests, the government and the agencies have not disclosed that the kidnapped workers were in their unlawful custody, he said. Conversely, the CID Police had kidnapped another JI worker Maaz Farooqui from Karachi Cantonment Railway Station. The CID Police had assured the parents of Farooqui for early release but to no avail, he said.
JI has time and again asked the law enforcers to initiate legal proceedings against any provided that they had concrete proof against the alleged citizen but unfortunately, the agencies have ruled out all legal and moral restrictions in this regard.
“Kidnapping of citizens without intimation to court of law was indeed an act of contempt to court and the law enforcement agencies have established a state within the state. The foul play by the agencies in the country did not carry any resemblance of similar acts in any part of the world,” Mahenti claimed.
He said that JI had approached different authorities in this regard but was disappointed by their cold attitude. Henceforth, JI has decided to approach the people of the country, human rights organizations, and leaders of political and religious parties and members of the civil society for their help for safe return of the kidnapped citizens to their homes.
