Karachi: Ameer, Jamaat–e-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that in spite of Islamabad’s decision to accord Most Favoured Nation status to India, the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had warned Islamabad against Mumbai like actions. Addressing to a press conference in Karachi on Friday, he said that India had used the SAARC summit only to malign Pakistan. He said that the MFN status for India would amount to stabbing the Kashmiris in the back and making a mockery of their huge sacrifices for freedom. JI Karachi chief, Muhammad Husain Mehnati also spoke on the occasion while other party leaders were present.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that no political party could have a decisive impact in the elections through solo flight and the present election politics could not go without election alliances. The JI would decide its election strategy at the appropriate time after the announcement of elections, he added.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that any assurance by President Zardari for action against the aqqani net work Haqqani net work would be against vital national interests. He said that the Haqqani net work did not have an independent status. It was subservient to the Taliban and obeyed the Taliban high command.
In fact, he said, the US wanted to make it a political issue in order to increase pressure on this country. He warned that any operation in North Waziristan would plunge this country into flames. He called upon the Presidency to explain its position in regard to dialogue with the US delegation.
Referring to the Karachi situation, the JI chief said that peace should be a given a change in the port city. He said the law and order during the Eidul Azha this year had been much better as compared to the previous years. The law enforcing bodies too made serious efforts to maintain peace. He said if solid efforts were made for peace, the business and trade activities would improve and the political situation would also improve. On the occasion, the JI Karachi chief, Muhammad Husain Mehnati, strongly condemned the torture by the terrorists on two Shabab e Milli workers on the Eid day. And said this was a fresh attempt from certain quarters to disturb the peace in the Mega city. He demanded prompt action against the culprits by the police and law enforcing agencies.
