Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) of India has recommended to the Indian government for fresh investigations of rape incident with 31 women by Indian troops occurred about 20 years ago. Submitting a report consisting of recommendations SHRC has stated that government should constitute an independent and impartial team for fresh investigation of rape incident occurred in 1991.
Earlier, the SHRC conducted interviews of effected women and recorded their statements. The commission has said in its report that they conducted interviews of eighteen women and their statements show that they were raped by the troops.
SHRC recommends in the report that an impartial team should be constituted in the supervision of police head, adding that a strict action should also be taken against senior police officials of that time because this case was not properly investigated by him.
SHRC has recommended that government should compensate these women. It is worth mentioning here that several women belonging to villages of district Kapwara have allegedly said that Indian troops raped them on 23 February 1991 night, meanwhile the masses protested against incident in those days.
