There will be no public holiday on 6th September 2018 (Thursday) on the account of Defence day and schools will remain open as no notification has been issued by federal or provincial governments of Pakistan.
Government offices and schools, colleges, universities & other educational institutes will remain open on Defence Day.
On many previous years the day was declared a public holiday to commemorate the martyrdom of Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives defending the country during 1965 war.
Government also didn’t declare the urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi though previously Sindh government declared it a public holiday. The next public holidays of this month will be for the 9th and 10th Muharram for Ashura.
On 6th September 1965 Indian army crossed the international border with Pakistan which started a war between the two nations in which thousands lost their lives, hundreds of tank and dozens of aircrafts were destroyed.
Pakistan successfully defended Lahore which Indian army aimed to capture, to divert Indian attention Pakistan also crossed Indian border and captured many villages and towns.
Army officers Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, Captain Sarwar, Major Tufail, Major Shabbir and many others were awarded Nishan-e-Haider.
The most prominent figure of the war was M.M. Alam who made a world record by destroying 5 Indian aircrafts within a minute.
