A senior member of MQM London was quoted by media disclosing their plan to boycott the 2018 elections. He declared it Haram for the Muhajir population to participate in the upcoming general elections.
According to media reports he vowed that muhajir will boycott these elections just like they boycotted the 1993 elections.
In 1992 soon after Altaf Hussain left Pakistan a military operation was started against MQM which resulted in arrest and killing of many MQM workers.
After operation MQM decided to boycott general elections but took part in provincial elections, emerging as the second biggest party in the province.
Currently MQM is divided into two factions, MQM-London which being led by Altaf Hussain and MQM-Pakistan which is led by Farooq Sattar.
MQM-Pakistan intends to take part in the upcoming elections and believes that once again they will emerge as the second biggest party in the province.
